  1. Advent and Christmas 2018 in Chelmsford

    The city of Chelmsford, of course, has a cathedral and there is no better time of the year to appreciate your cities architectural and historical value than Christmas. The Chelmsford Cathedral offers lots of opportunities to celebrate Advent and Christmas if you are looking to buy property in Chelmsford you can find out lots about a city by attending traditional events. 

    If you missed the atmospheric candlelit service marking the beginning of the Advent season on Sunday 2nd December and the Cathedral Choirs’ Christmas Concert on Saturday 8th December, or the Christingle Service on Sunday 9th December. Make sure you don’t miss Carols for Everyone on Friday 14 & Friday 21 December 12.30pm. You can take a break from your Chelmsford Christmas shopping and enjoy a service of carols that everyone can join in with.  It is also accompanied with mulled wine and mince pies.

    The Mayor of Chelmsford is inviting local residents to join her at the City’s first Civic Carol Service. This will be held in the Cathedral at 6.45 on 14 December and will feature the Salvation Army Band, the Chelmsford Singers, the Writtle Singers and Margaretting School.

    The service is expected to last approximately 75 minutes; mulled wine and mince pies will be served afterwards. Admission is free and there will be a retiring collection in aid of the Mayor’s Charities – Kids Inspire and the Dementia Project at Broomfield Hospital.

    Then on Sunday 16th December at 6.00pm, there is the Benjamin Britten’s A Ceremony of Carols with the lighting of the Christmas Tree. At this event, the Chelmsford Cathedral Girls’ Choir in association with Essex Dance Theatre will perform Benjamin Britten’s a ceremony of carols followed by the lighting of the Christmas Tree.

    The weekend that proceeds your Chelmsford Christmas is full of tradition, on Friday 21st December at 6.30pm, the great tradition of readings, carols and beautiful music from the Cathedral choir will form Nine Lessons and Carols. Nine Lessons and Carols also takes place on Saturday 22 December at 6.30pm and on Sunday 23 December, 6.30pm.

    On Christmas Eve, Monday 24 December, there is a Family celebration at 4.00pm, for their Crib Service then the awe-inspiring celebration of the birth of Christ Midnight mass at 11.30pm. On Tuesday 25 December, Christmas Day there is an 8.00am, Holy Communion at 9.00am, there is a Family Eucharist for Christmas morning and at 10.30am, a great celebration led by the Bishop of Chelmsford takes place in the form of a Choral Eucharist for Christmas morning.
