  1. Chelmsford Lights up for Christmas

With the lighting up of Chelmsford Christmas lights, we know that Christmas has arrived in Chelmsford. Much thanks to actor Joe Thomas, who is best known for his role as Simon Cooper in the hit television series ‘The Inbetweeners’ for pushing the plunger to light up Chelmsford’s High Street and Bond Street.

It was great to see literally thousands of people attended the big switch-on event and to see Joe Thomas return to his hometown to reveal the magnificent brand-new light displays in the city centre. The event was in itself spectacular and confirms Chelmsford s growth as a city to buy property in and raise a family in. Alongside the lighting up of the city lights, there was a spectacular firework display for the grand finale of the Christmas lights event near the Meadows Shopping Centre.

Festivities began in Chelmsford High Street from 12 pm with family-friendly activities and festive food and drink, warming the crowds before the main stage entertainment. Martin and Su from Heart Essex presented a fantastic array of local and professional performing talent, with crowd-pleasing sets from Winston and The Lads, Funky Voices community choir, Will Daly’s Drumming Group Dancing Grannies and We3.

Councillor Anthony McQuiggan, cabinet member for Corporate Services said, “The Christmas Lights switch-on event is the biggest annual event in the Chelmsford festive calendar and we were thrilled to see such big crowds of all ages having a great time, getting into the festive spirit under the magical new lights in the City Centre.”

Don’t forget Late Night Shopping begins in Chelmsford City Centre in December. If you are looking to buy property in Chelmsford coming and exploring the area over Christmas time is worth it. It’s a great place to do your Christmas shopping but make sure you check with individual stores for details of their late night opening times. This year’s brand new Christmas Lights are worth a look and were jointly funded by One Chelmsford (Chelmsford’s Business Improvement District), Chelmsford City Council, Bond Street and Can Bridge Management.  The City is working together to make it an even better place to live.
